ours is similar, but we have two different contracts: (to be re-negotiated
soon)
2022-2025 Unit C Contract DRAFT
The Committee will pay cash-in-lieu of health insurance benefits ($1000 for
30+ hours/week; $750 for 20+ hours/week) annually in the last pay period of
June to any employee within the unit who is eligible for but elects not to
take the District’s health insurance coverage. The election must occur no
later than May 31st for current employees (for the following contract year)
or September 1st for new employees (or within 30 days of date-of-hire). The
employee must provide written documentation that they are covered by
another employer’s Affordable Care Act-compliant health insurance which may
not be offered by the ACA’s Health Insurance Marketplace or
government-sponsored Medicaid. The payment under this provision shall be
considered taxable income and shall be subject to taxes and other
applicable withholding. The payment will be prorated in the event that the
employee does not work the full contract year.
or:
C. Cash-in-lieu of Health Insurance
1.
This option is available in lieu of a teacher participating in the
health insurance program provided in this collective bargaining agreement.
The teacher MUST provide evidence of health insurance coverage under
another plan to qualify for this benefit. This program provides the
opportunity for a teacher to receive a one-time only cash benefit of
$1000.00 which is taxable income.
2.
Once a teacher elects to participate in this cash-in-lieu program, the
teacher cannot rejoin the Committee’s health insurance plan except in
the case of a bona fide reason according to the IRS’s rules and
regulations (e.g. change in marital status, birth of child, loss of health
insurance);
Any teacher eligible for the one-time $1000.00 payment shall be paid in
a separate check at the end of the school year.
