Casco Bay Estuary Partnership (CBEP), based at the University of Southern Maine's Catherine Cutler Institute, is seeking a Policy and Science Assistant to join our collaborative, mission-driven team.This is an ideal opportunity for someone early in their career, or pivoting into coastal or environmental work, who wants broad exposure, meaningful responsibility, and the chance to contribute to a nationally recognized estuary program.This hands-on role offers broad exposure to coastal environmental work in Maine, supporting projects that range from field data collection and event coordination to communications, storytelling, and partner engagement. Ideal for someone looking to learn how coastal science and policy work happens in practice. Salary is $42,000/Year + Benefits.

Job Opportunity: Policy & Science Assistant
Casco Bay Estuary Partnership (CBEP)

Full-time, grant-funded, 2-year position, $42,000/year + benefits
Are you curious about how coastal environmental work actually gets done? Do you want hands-on experience across science, policy, communications, and community engagement, while learning about coastal water quality and habitat issues in Maine?
Casco Bay Estuary Partnership (CBEP), based at the University of Southern Maine's Catherine Cutler Institute and part of a national network of estuary programs, is seeking a Policy and Science Assistant to join our collaborative, mission-driven team.
This is an ideal opportunity for someone early in their career, or pivoting into coastal or environmental work, who wants broad exposure, meaningful responsibility, and the chance to contribute to a nationally recognized estuary program.
What You'll Do:
You'll work side-by-side with experienced staff and partners, gaining a big-picture understanding of coastal environmental management while also diving into day-to-day work. Responsibilities include:
* Supporting projects across all CBEP program areas, from planning to implementation
* Assisting with fieldwork, data collection, and equipment maintenance
* Helping plan and run meetings, events, and educational activities
* Representing CBEP at working groups and partner meetings
* Supporting storytelling and communications, including social media, website updates, and outreach materials
* Assisting with reports, products, and grant reporting to EPA and other funders
