Live Staking Installation Workshop[image: Picture]
*Date:* November 7th
*Time: *1pm-3pm
*Location: *Thompson Lake Marina, Heath Rd, Casco
*Fee:* Free
Live stakes are a newly popularized method to installing plants that is low
cost and efficient. It doesn't disturb soil, and is effective where planting
larger shrubs with big root balls may be difficult. Live staking requires
no permitting, and can often be installed by a homeowner using only plant
material already existing on site!
Join us for an interactive workshop to learn how to install live stakes.
We'll talk about what live stakes are, how and when to harvest them, and
how to install them. Live stakes can be installed on an eroding bank, into
the grass or an existing buffer, or even through riprap! Participants will
leave with the confidence that they can replicate this practice on their
own property!
Participation in installation is strongly encouraged, but not necessary.
You can just attend for the information if you prefer.
Please wear footwear and clothing appropriate for "gardening work" and the
weather of the day. We ask that participants bring their own
clippers/pruners--hand held by-pass clippers are preferred but small sets
of loupers are also appropriate.

Restoring the Sabattus Watershed + Beyond[image: Picture]
*Date:* November 13th
*Time:* 6pm-7:30pm
*Location: *Zoom Webinar - Link to be Released
*Fee:* Free
Join the Androscoggin River Watershed Council and Androscoggin Valley Soil
& Water Conservation District for an evening webinar to explore what's
happening on the Sabattus and Little Androscoggin rivers. *After being cut
off for more than 100 years, alewives and other sea-run (anadromous) fish
will be able to swim from the ocean to Sabattus Pond once again because of
recent dam removals and other restoration efforts on the Sabattus River.*
Efforts to address erosion and other problems in the Sabattus Pond
watershed are also in process. Dr. Theo Willis from the Maine Department of
Marine Resources will discuss the past, present, and future of the Sabattus
River project and why it's important to Sabattus Pond, the Androscoggin
River, and the entire Maine landscape. During the webinar, we will discuss
fish passage in the Little Androscoggin River, with potential benefits for
the entire Lower Androscoggin River Watershed. Please bring questions,
comments, and curiosity with fish passage, dam removals, Sabattus Pond,
water quality, and aquatic wildlife habitat!
