Stormwater Intern

The City of South Portland is currently seeking a full time seasonal Stormwater Intern for the Water Resource Protection Department's Collection Systems Division. This position generally starts with full time hours in mid-May and finishes with part time hours in late October to accommodate a typical school year.

The Stormwater Intern will assist with implementation of the six Minimum Control Measures (MCMs) as outlined in Maine's Small Municipal Separate Storm Sewer System (MS4) General<https://www.maine.gov/dep/water/wd/ms4/2022-Municipal-MS4-GP.pdf> Permit<https://www.maine.gov/dep/water/wd/ms4/2022-Municipal-MS4-GP.pdf> and the City's Stormwater Program Management Plan<https://www.southportland.gov/DocumentCenter/View/1251/Citys-Stormwater-Management-Plan-PDF>. The Stormwater Intern reports to the Stormwater Program Coordinator.

To qualify for consideration, applicants must have exceptional computer, public relations, written and verbal communication skills. Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications specifically Excel, Word and PowerPoint is essential. Familiarity with Geographic Information Systems (GIS) applications such as ArcGIS Pro and ArcGIS Online is strongly desired. The ability to multi-task, work independently and effectively coordinate multiple projects is a must.

Applicants must have a high school diploma or equivalent and be enrolled in a two or four year degree program in engineering, environmental sciences, or natural resources field; equivalent combination of experience and training will also be considered.
