[SchoolFinance] Anyone calculating overtime by day rather than week?

Hi Heather,
Normally OT hours only count after 40 hours of actual time *worked *and
would *not* include Sick, EPL, Vaca, Holidays, or any other paid leave.
This is what is considered "Qualified Overtime". Ex: So if an employee
worked 35 hours and took 8 hours of paid leave, they would not get paid any
overtime. But if an employee actually worked 43 hours, they would be paid
3 hours at OT rate.

An employer *can* agree through negotiations to pay employees at Overtime
rate for all hours over 40 hours/week and count all hours worked and all
hours taken for paid leave towards the 40 hours and then pay OT rate for
all hours over that 40 hours. In that case, only hours WORKED in the 40
hours count towards Qualified OT, any hours paid at OT that *included paid
leave* (to get to the initial 40 hours) would be considered *Non-Qualifying*
OT.
Ex. If an employer agrees to count all hours towards paying Overtime rate,
then both examples above would mean that each scenario gets paid the 3
hours at OT rate.
For tax purposes, The one that worked 35 hours would show 0 hrs for
Qualified OT and 3 hrs for Non-Qualifying OT.
The one that worked 43 hours would show 3 Hrs for Qualifying OT.

Summary, yes, all hours (worked + paid leaves) can be counted towards OT in
terms of paying the employee for OT rate, but only hours actually worked
count towards earning Qualified OT for tax purposes.
