We did not give additional time due to EPL, *except* for those that did not
earn ANY paid leave prior to its implementation (ex. subs or part-time
employees).
For SUBS of part-time employees, we created an EPL leave code that
calculates and adds EPL for each hour worked. It is not front-loaded, it's
earned as they work.
All others are front-loaded, same as their usual paid leave:
We converted the personal days to the equivalent number of hours as EPL.
No more personal days. ex. 2 Personal days are now 16 hours of EPL
instead..
For school year full-time employees, we converted 3 days of sick leave (in
addition to the former personal leave) to add up to 40 hours. So they do
not get MORE time, we just converted some of the existing leave they had to
an EPL category of leave, which provides for it being used on an hourly
basis. So If they previously had 10 sick days and 2 personal days, now
they have 7 sick days and 40 hours of EPL. No more personal.
For Year-round employees who earn vacation, we converted 2 personal days
and 3 vacation days to equal 40 hours of EPL. So instead of getting 10
days of vaca and 2 personal days, they now get 7 days vaca and 40 hours of
EPL.
Attached is an example of the language in our Teachers' CBA.
