Updates for the Maine Through Year Assessment

Week 1 of the six-week window is complete, and over 21,300 tests have been completed in Acacia!

To change a student's preferred name in Acacia, please reach out to NWEA Maine Partner Support at (855) 430-1777. They will complete the change in Acacia and record the SSID, new name, and date the change was completed in Acacia in case follow-up needs to occur at a later date.

To determine if an assessment reset is appropriate and to access the reset request form, please see the Fall 2024 Reset Process Flow<https://www.nwea.org/uploads/Maine-Through-Year-Assessment-Reset-Process-Fall-24_NWEA_Guide.pdf>.

The adaptivity of the fall assessment allows for students to see questions from any grade level, without bounds. The goal of the constraint-based engine that drives MAP Growth and the fall administration of the Maine Through Year Assessment is to, in the end, determine the difficulty level at which a student has a 50% probability of answering a question correctly. As a result, the assessment is expected to present students with questions that are too difficult for them to answer.
If your school's/SAU's teachers and students are not already aware that their students are expected to receive questions that they cannot answer and that those questions may be above the student's actual grade, please provide information to teachers and students regarding the adaptivity of the fall assessment. Understanding that questions could be posed about content a student has not yet been taught can help prevent the in-the-moment anxiety that may occur when these difficult questions are presented unexpectedly.

At this time, students whose special education record was added in Synergy at least one business day after their initial enrollment may be missing the Special Education flag in Acacia. ME OIT is aware of the missing special education status flag in Acacia and is working towards a resolution. The school/SAU can continue to assign accommodations and supports and assess the student as usual without the Special Education flag being present in Acacia.

The Q&A from September's Office Hours is attached to this email.

At the September 11th Office Hours, the Maine DOE Assessment Team received the request to develop a letter for parents/guardians regarding state assessments. A letter about the Maine Through Year Assessment is available now in English<https://www.maine.gov/doe/sites/maine.gov.doe/files/inline-files/Assessment%20-%20Maine%20Through%20Year%20Assessment%20for%20Parents%20%26%20Guardians%2024-25%20-%209.18.2024.pdf> and in the process of being translated. A letter regarding all of Maine's educational assessments is being developed by the Director of Assessment and will be shared in the future.
