Maine Vision Screening Guidelines Online Learning Modules
Maine DOE recently partnered with School Health Associates to create the Evidence-based Vision Screening Guidelines for Preschool and School-aged Children. These online modules provide a detailed step by step guide on how, when, and why to vision screen Maine children.  American Nursing Credentialing Center (ANCC) approved contact hours (1.1) can be obtained at the completion of the training through 2026. Any School Nurse in Maine that is working with the ages to which screening is required by state law (Chapt. 45<https://www.maine.gov/sos/cec/rules/05/chaps05.htm>) to occur, is encouraged to complete the training to understand current best practice. This learning module was developed with School Health Associates, LLC to provide nurses in Maine with the knowledge to implement evidence-based vision screenings for students. Last Call for TEAMS!
Calling all school health team leaders for our 2024-2025 Cohort to strengthen health services programs in your school administrative district (SAU). The Training, Education, Assistance, Mentorship, and Support (TEAMS) Program helps school districts increase the capacity to enhance student health services by taking a deep dive into school administrative unit (SAU) policy, procedures, and infrastructure through team building and use of tools for evaluation and resources for action planning. The program period will run the second Tuesday of each month from October 2024 through April 2025. Sessions will be conducted virtually with 4 required meetings and 3 optional. All meetings are one hour except for one midyear meeting which is 2 hours.

Webinars and Upcoming Trainings

Basic Life Support Recertification and STOP THE BLEED® Trainings
The School Nurse Regional Liaison team are excited to announce that we will be offering American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) Recertification and STOP THE BLEED® courses throughout the 2024-25 school year. The goal is to offer two of these combo sessions to school nurses in each region of Maine. The trainings are free, however, there is a $5 fee for the BLS eCard. The first session will take place on September 27th in Augusta and the next session will be on October 24th in Hampden.
