Greetings!

I hope that this email finds you rested, rejuvenated, and ready for a new school year. This marks my 8th "new" school year of welcoming you back. A lot has changed in that time and as things do, some things have stayed the same. One of those staying the same things is that the beginning of a school year for school nurses is challenging but exciting! Welcome back. I am glad you are here.

First, I am so happy to be leading a great team that now includes six registered nurses here at Maine DOE. All school nurses will receive an email from your School Nurse Regional Liaison by the end of the week--Nick Oyler in the northeast region, Angie Buker in the central region, Nicole Furlong in the western region, and Lori Huot in the southern region. They will introduce themselves and give an overview of what is in store for this year. In addition, you may receive periodic emails through this announcement only listserv from me or the School Nurse Specialists, Tammy Diaz and Sarah DeCato.  This full team is a great addition to the public health infrastructure within our state.

Second, the Maine CDC wants you to be aware of  all the resources available to you regarding infectious diseases, especially as you start a new school year. The attached "School Mailing with Links" is a letter from them that includes so many useful links, materials you can order, and more! Be sure to take a look at all they have.

And last, I wanted to let you know that we will continue to have School Nurse Office Hours once a month on the first Wednesday. Office Hours is held for a couple of reasons—1. Share announcements from Maine DOE or Maine CDC 2. Provide an opportunity for nurses to ask questions and seek input from both state level staff and their peers.
The first office hours will be held on September 3. Office hours will not be recorded and contact hours will not be provided. A follow up email with the topics discussed will go out after each session.  The zoom link will remain the same, so you only need to register once.
