[MaineLiteracy] Free Film Screening and Panel Discussion of the movie, “The Right to Read”

Being literate is an issue of equity. Reading, writing, listening, and speaking are gatekeepers for learning and for participating productively in today’s world. Brain research conducted over the past several decades has revealed the processes involved in becoming literate and has underscored the aspects of instructional practice essential for promoting strong beginning reading and literacy abilities.

The University of Southern Maine Department of Special Education and the Maine Department of Education are happy to co-host a free screening of the documentary The Right to Read on Monday 22 January 2024 from 4:30 to 6:30 pm in Hannaford Hall on the Portland campus. The movie screening will be followed by a panel discussion with USM faculty, DOE staff, and classroom teachers.

Note: This event is free and open to the public.
Parking is available on the USM Portland campus at the cost of $4.00 per hour.
