Belfast Area Children's Center - Cook/Nutritionist

The Cook/Nutritionist is responsible for all aspects of kitchen operations from menu, production planning and purchasing to recording and using automated reporting systems. The cook/nutritionist follows sound nutritional practices by offering healthy and appropriate meals and snacks in a nurturing environment to all attending children in full compliance with Belfast Area Child Care Services and the USDA Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP) guidelines.  This position is instrumental in implementing the program wide nutrition curriculum including the 5-2-1-0 initiative and garden project.

Primary purpose of the position:


  *   Maintain a professional, clean and orderly work environment in all phases of kitchen operations in accordance with agency, state and federal requirements.
  *   Plan weekly menu production guidelines using the database for food program operations.
  *   Publish menu plan in advance of the week of service.
  *   Purchase necessary quantities of food and consumable kitchen related non-food items in accordance with USDA and agency guidelines and within budget constraints.
  *   Maintain accurate daily point of service attendance records for each meal.
  *   Prepare, serve and cleanup the kitchen for breakfast, lunch and an afternoon snack each day.
  *   Wash all dishes and pots in accordance with sanitary regulations.
  *   Complete required weekly food program reporting accurately and on time.
  *   Store all foods properly and maintain equipment in good working order.
  *   Purchase necessary equipment after consulting with the Director.
  *   Attend staff meetings; participate in relevant training in health and safety, and other appropriate workshops and conferences that relate to the position.
  *   Arrive promptly and be responsible in performance of basic work chores.
  *   Share in organizing, cleaning and maintaining equipment and materials and meal common area.
  *   Maintain the gardens and the greenhouse.
  *   Perform any other duties and/or responsibilities that may from time to time be delegated by the Director.
