A new online public resource Chloride in Maine Waters<https://storymaps.arcgis.com/stories/ebb4f5cecdec4229b5006b002ec090f0> is now available. With an increase of winter deicing salt use on parking lots, roads and sidewalks, chloride levels have been rising in some bodies of water in Maine. This StoryMap provides an overview of the current status of chloride in Maine's streams, wetlands, lakes, and groundwater. Included are a summary of the impacts of chloride on freshwater systems and statewide maps of specific conductance (as a proxy for chloride) or chloride in Maine's freshwaters over time.
