Registration is now open for Winter Salt Week, a national effort dedicated to raising awareness about salt pollution and promoting practical solutions for smarter snow and ice management.
Winter Salt Week takes place during the last week of January and brings together watershed groups, municipalities, state agencies, NGOs, and practitioners from across the country to highlight challenges, share success stories, and elevate the need for stronger policy and public action. Excessive winter salt use damages infrastructure and threatens the health of lakes, streams, and drinking water - but informed communities can drive meaningful change.

In January 2025, more than 900 participants from 30+ states took part. As of now, Maine is tied with New Hampshire and just behind Michigan in total registrations. I’d love to see Maine move up the rankings in 2026 and show the strength of our watershed and stormwater community.
