Youth Conservation Corps Project Coordinator
The Thompson Lake Environmental Association (TLEA) is looking for a Project Coordinator to lead our Youth Conservation Corps (YCC) crew in planning, estimating and constructing erosion control projects in the watershed of Thompson Lake. Candidates should have experience in landscaping for erosion control and be willing to receive certification from the Maine Dept. of Environment for basic and advanced erosion control practices. Our YCC has been in existence since 2002 and is directed by the Board of TLEA. A Board member serves as the YCC Director and is certified by the Maine DEP for erosion control. We have an existing YCC Crew of 2-3 high school students with previous experience, a crew cab truck and the required hand operated tools.
The project for YCC season is June 16 through August 7. The Coordinator will be expected to work at least a week before and after the season to plan jobs and summarize the work, for an estimated total of 10 weeks. The YCC program is supported by a 319 Federal Grant, so the Coordinator will assist in obtaining Cost Share Agreements with landowners, in addition to training, supervising and assisting the work crew. A 4-day work week is scheduled with the Coordinator working a 5th day for site visits, estimating and documentation. Typical projects include installation of box culverts, razor bar, plunge pools, infiltration steps, drip line trenches and buffer plantings.
We are looking for an experienced, organized individual who will enjoy working with a dedicated Board and a crew that is young and eager to learn. The pay starts at $30/hour plus, depending on experience. If you are interested, contact our Administrator at office.tlea at gmail.com. For more information on our Association, visit Thompsonlake.org.
