Position Title: Senior Community Engagement/Outreach Specialist
Company: Sunrise Ecologic
Position Type:
*        Part-time: Up to 15 hours/week for one year (potential for renewal based on funding)
*        Remote and In-Person: Midcoast events (Boothbay, Boothbay Harbor, Southport)
*        Project-Based: Opportunities for additional hours and advancement into leadership roles
Compensation: $26-27/hour (based on experience and education)
Reports to: Principal/Owner
Position Summary
The Senior Community Outreach and Engagement Specialist will connect Sunrise Ecologic's regional climate vulnerability assessments with the Boothbay Region Climate Action Team (BRCAT) and local stakeholders. This role emphasizes equitable community engagement, collaboration, and empowering community-led climate resilience initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
1.      Community Engagement and Outreach
o   Develop strategies for engaging vulnerable groups (older adults, youth, town officials, and disabled individuals).
o   Facilitate public meetings, workshops, and focus groups for climate education.
o   Build relationships with community leaders and stakeholders.
o   Liaise between Sunrise Ecologic and climate action teams.
2.      Project Management
o   Plan, execute, and evaluate outreach activities.
o   Simplify technical climate resilience concepts for diverse audiences.
o   Utilize project management tools (Activecollab, Toggl, Calendly).
o   Create reports and presentations for stakeholders.
3.      Leadership Development
o   Support BRCAT with leadership training and mentorship.
o   Foster youth involvement in climate-related initiatives.
o   Supervise and mentor student interns.
4.      Communication and Content Development
o   Develop outreach materials (newsletters, social media posts, press releases, etc.).
o   Create educational content in collaboration with technical staff and guest speakers.
Qualifications
Education:
*        Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Communications, Urban Planning, Public Policy, or related fields.
*        Maine-based education preferred.
Experience:
*        5+ years in community engagement, public outreach, or project management (climate resilience experience is a plus).
*        Experience engaging diverse audiences and building consensus.
Skills and Competencies:
*        Strong verbal and written communication skills.
*        Proficiency with project management and productivity tools (Google Docs, Activecollab, GIS/QGIS a plus).
*        Valid driver's license, personal vehicle, and reliable internet access.
*        Flexibility for evening/weekend events as needed.
Working Conditions
*        Remote work with occasional in-person travel for meetings and events.
*        Flexible schedule based on project needs.
