I asked Tyler Technologies about this before I started budgeting and they
responded with the following:
We are aware of the new PFLA that starts in January 2025. The State has
not released any specifications on this as far as setting up as a “tax” yet
so we do have to wait for that information before we can do anything on
this end. If it is going to be classified as a “tax” then that is something
we set up and not you; if you set one up it does not carry forward each
Calendar year. Depending on how the State proceeds with this it may end up
being set up as a Deduction (ee/er) and not under Tax. But again as they
have not released any specifications we have not made any decisions on that
yet. I do believe DOE has released some of the information on how they
would like the GL accounts to be set up so you are free to start creating
those accounts. If you need to set this up in Budget Development we are
directing clients to set up as a Deduction in order to budget with payroll
budgeting or adding under the non-request column if you have a specific
amount you plan to budget for. There is NOT any way to set up in Budget as
a Tax. I hope this helps for now and we will keep everyone updated as we
receive more information on how this will work going forward.
