Dear Champions of Education,<br>

We know that this week’s storm produced damage to schools and school property across Maine. Given the widespread and severe impact of the storm, Maine Emergency Management Agency (MEMA) is preparing for a Major Disaster Declaration request. To do so, the MEMA
is conducting a statewide damage assessment.<br>
<br>
<strong><span style="font-family:"Arial",sans-serif">Public schools and private schools that function as non-profits are encouraged to fill out
<a href="https://maine.us2.list-manage.com/track/click?u=a582edd6473e477ef6307c769&id=da03649119&e=20811a8ea5">
<span style="color:#336699;font-weight:normal">this form</span></a> by December 27, 2023,</span></strong> to provide general information on damages sustained by the storm.
<strong><span style="font-family:"Arial",sans-serif">All other private schools should complete the form at
<a href="https://maine.us2.list-manage.com/track/click?u=a582edd6473e477ef6307c769&id=90b94d0ce7&e=20811a8ea5">
<span style="color:#336699;font-weight:normal">this link</span></a> by the same deadline.</span></strong> These are only meant to be high-level estimates on bringing things back to pre-disaster conditions. Estimates should not include costs covered by insurance
or mitigation (building back better).<br>
<br>
Filling out the assessment form does not guarantee funding, nor is it an application for funding, but it is a necessary step to determine disaster response with Federal partners.<br>
<br>
Public schools and <em><u><span style="font-family:"Arial",sans-serif">some</span></u></em> educational non-profits are eligible for Public Assistance should this program become available to Maine by way of a Presidential Disaster Declaration.<br>
The Maine Department of Education (DOE) will continue to provide updates on potential disaster declarations and funding available to schools.<o:p></o:p></span></p>
