Revised Statutes (MRS) Title 20-A section 6403-A (5)</a><span class="ContentPasted0"> </span>which directs the Commissioner of Education to issue guidelines on the provision of school health services and health-related activities. As a leading chronic illness
in our youth, asthma is also one of the chief causes of school absenteeism in the United States. An asthma-friendly environment with effective asthma management programs can reduce absenteeism as well as help students with asthma participate fully and reach
academic, physical, and extracurricular goals. School-wide asthma management programs include asthma education and resources for staff, students, and families in addition to care coordination with medical providers in the community. </p>
