Good morning. !

Thank you to those who joined us today for office hours. Here is a highlight of items we discussed:

Guest Speakers Dr. Jessica Riccardi is the principal investigator of the Brain injury, Education and Rehabilitation (BEaR) Lab at University of Maine and Katy Bizier, Senior NeuroResource Facilitator, from the Maine Chapter of the Brain Injury Association of America. They are looking to partner with schools to pilot a brief brain injury screening tool; see 2 attached documents for example. We have also been working with the BIAA to offer Brain Injury Fundamentals Training – Training components include:

  *   Essential topics on brain injury:
     *   Cognition
     *   Interaction and rapport building
     *   Brain injury and behavior
     *   Medical complications
     *   Medication management
     *   Families coping with brain injury

Question about CLIA Waivers: Yes, they are a requirement for schools who do any testing such as blood glucose. There is training available from US CDC<https://www.cdc.gov/lab-training/php/courses/introduction-clinical-laboratory-improvement-amendments-of-1988-clia.html> which is approved for nursing continuing education—for free.
Next month: Some of the nurses who were part of the Northeastern University School Health Academy Leadership Cohort for 2024 will be sharing some takeaway lessons learned. Be sure to join us in March!
