Good afternoon,



I hope you are  well! We are currently reaching out to school nurses and districts that may be interested in addressing chronic absenteeism in their schools utilizing our evidence-based toolkit in the 2023-24 school year. Please respond if you are interested in receiving more information or possibly in having your district participate.



We currently have participants in Madawaska and Woodland Consolidated Schools. As school nursing leaders in Maine, would you recommend any school nurses or districts that may be good candidates for us to contact? If you do, I'd greatly appreciate any names you may recommend.

This is a great way to show the value of the school nurses in relation to attendance and their role on the school-wide teams addressing these issues. Prior to agreeing, NASN holds an information session with school nurse and any district/building administrators with interest in the project. There is a district agreement and school nurse agreement that would be completed prior to participation.

The online materials provide many resources and several short videos of nurses who have participated previously in the project.

Basics:

·       review absenteeism by student at the end of each month

·       identify those with >10% absent each month

·       determine health vs non-health reason

·       work with student family to identify interventions to improve attendance or address health issues that may be impacting the ability to attend

·       there are data points NASN will ask the school nurses to report monthly throughout the 2023-24 school year

  *   I have attached the boilerplate agreements for your review and consideration. If you ultimately decide to proceed, we will need to confirm the name and address of your school as well as the best contact information for the school nurse that would be participating; I would then provide school-specific copies of the necessary agreements.
     *   The pilot site agreement form and the District Sample Data Agreement form would both be signed by the district. I would also need the name and address for the district in order to complete the pilot site agreement form.
     *   The SN Sample Agreement form would be completed by the school nurse who will be participating in the data collection.
