October Workshops: Resolving Conflicts with Roadside Beaver
The Maine Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife (MDIFW) and USDA-Wildlife Services (USDA-WS) are offering two beaver site modification classes in October; the programs are linked here: October 7 in Bar Harbor<https://memun.us3.list-manage.com/track/click?u=a02f393074759f75f41c3db2a&id=1bfb12127e&e=3c38a97ff5> and October 16 in Newfield<https://memun.us3.list-manage.com/track/click?u=a02f393074759f75f41c3db2a&id=fb53c9c47b&e=3c38a97ff5> . The daylong program has a classroom component followed by an exercise in the field where participants build and install a beaver deterrence structure (by hand) at an existing chronic roadside problem site.
The workshop is free but pre-registration is required.
Previous workshops (7 total) have all been well attended. Registration is limited to 30.
The training is tailored for persons whose work involves assessing and resolving roadside beaver conflicts.  Though a participant may not be installing deterrence structures themselves, the program covers what to look for when assessing a beaver problem and how to address a chronic problem site. And they will learn about beaver biology and ecology which are essential to finding permanent solutions.
