[esol.communication] Additional PreK screener information

Dear Colleagues,

Robin and I want to pass along this information regarding PreK ELP screening, as it may be useful to you as you plan for next year. As you are aware, districts can decide which screener they choose to use with PreK students when screening for English Language proficiency. Most of our districts use PreLAS. Robin recently looked at the PRE-IPT and met with a representative, Lori Hill, to learn more about the PreK screener. The screener was easy to use, provides a diagnostic report, and their norms were just updated. There is now a 6th edition of the test.

If you are interested in finding out more information, I have included the follow up information below. Please note: We are not recommending the use of this screener, just feel like we did the "scout" work to tell you that if you are looking for something other than the PreLAS, this might be an option to consider. Please share with anyone that might benefit.

Customized parent letters, progress reports, etc. are also available using the online platform tools.

The online platform includes examiner certification training and practice. Test credits are purchased in bundles of 50 units. One test credit equals one test given. Test credits can be used for any age or grade, and work for English or Spanish testing. Unused test credits roll over to the next year, and there are no maintenance costs using the platform. Storyboards and pieces are sold separately.
