The Maine DOE is hosting a series of webinars to review and discuss the newly released CDC Mental Health and Wellbeing Guide for Schools. Please consider attending if you are able. There is a plan to record each of the webinar sessions also; although the recordings will not include the small group implantation discussions. The first webinar will be supported by the US CDC staff who contributed to the development of this guide.

Mental Health and Wellbeing Action Guide for Schools Released By US CDC
Dear Champions of Education,
The Maine Department of Education (DOE) is pleased to announce a new resource from the US Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) to support mental wellness in schools. Promoting Mental Health and Wellbeing in Schools: An Action Guide for School and District Leaders<https://maine.us2.list-manage.com/track/click?u=a582edd6473e477ef6307c769&id=0dd4eceffe&e=5b409dbfc5> highlights actionable strategies and resources that can strengthen the current programming at your school or school administrative unit (SAU).
The Maine DOE will be hosting a 7-part mini series for collaborative review and discussion of this new resource.
Dates: Every Wednesday, February 28 through April 10
Time: 3:30 - 4:15 p.m. EST

Administrators, health services team members, and interested educators are encouraged to participate in this interactive opportunity to learn about best practices in supporting mental health in schools. This is also an opportunity for school personnel to connect and discuss current practices being provided along with additional strategies to implement in support of student and employee mental health and wellbeing. Focus topics included in the guide that will be discussed each week of the webinar mini-series include:
* Increase students’ mental health literacy<https://maine.us2.list-manage.com/track/click?u=a582edd6473e477ef6307c769&id=51fe5515c7&e=5b409dbfc5> through classroom-led mental health education and implementing peer-led modeling programs.
* Promote mindfulness<https://maine.us2.list-manage.com/track/click?u=a582edd6473e477ef6307c769&id=ea52410858&e=5b409dbfc5> through classroom-led education, allocating time for independent mindfulness practice, and offering small group mindfulness activities.
* Promote social, emotional, and behavioral learning<https://maine.us2.list-manage.com/track/click?u=a582edd6473e477ef6307c769&id=e808c6492d&e=5b409dbfc5> through classroom instruction focused on building social skills and emotional development and offering targeted education focused on social skills and emotional development.
* Enhance connectedness<https://maine.us2.list-manage.com/track/click?u=a582edd6473e477ef6307c769&id=152a978a8d&e=5b409dbfc5> between students, staff, and families by offering relationship-building programs.
* Provide psychosocial skills training and cognitive behavioral interventions<https://maine.us2.list-manage.com/track/click?u=a582edd6473e477ef6307c769&id=b215e13aee&e=5b409dbfc5> by engaging students in coping skills training and encouraging acceptance and commitment to change.
* Support school staff well-being<https://maine.us2.list-manage.com/track/click?u=a582edd6473e477ef6307c769&id=f94849fd3f&e=5b409dbfc5> by offering mindfulness-based training programs and providing therapeutic resources.
