[Cacfp] CACFP & SFSP

It has come to our attention that Sponsors of the Summer Food Service Program (SFSP) and the Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP) may be overlapping in eligibility and meal services.

We received guidance from NERO that SFSP sites at childcare locations should be uniquely different in the scope of services provided to be eligible, -OR- be serving kids not attending or enrolled in their childcare program.

Examples:
A CACFP childcare with enrolled children cannot participate in SFSP in the summer months to feed those enrolled children, even when they are not claiming them in CACFP.

A childcare center could provide a staff person to monitor the playground during times when the playground is open to children from the community (not the center), allowing children from the community to come and receive a meal.

Things to remember:

- CACFP At-Risk Sites cannot operate during the summer months and are encouraged to transition to SFSP if eligible.
- Please reach out to the State Agency Staff to determine if your site is eligible to participate in either program.
- CACFP childcare centers/daycare home providers should not be feeding enrolled children utilizing the SFSP.
