[Cacfp] Maine Fish for Maine Children!

Are you interested in receiving FREE local fish this year? The Fishermen Feeding Mainers (FFM) Program seeks to provide direct financial relief to fishermen by helping them supply childcare centers, providers, and schools in need with healthy Maine seafood.

The sign up for FFM can be found on our website here: https://www.maine.gov/doe/farmtoschool. The link is called "Maine Fish in Maine Schools". This program is a partnership between Maine DOE Child Nutrition and the Maine Coast Fishermen's Association, and came out of the pandemic.

Here are some important notes on the FFM Program:

  *   The fish is white, flaky fish (cod, haddock, pollock, monkfish, hake, etc.) and is frozen. The species of fish depends on what the fishermen catch, so it varies.



  *   Mary Hudson from the Maine Coast Fishermen's Association will email the sponsors that have signed up when fish is available. There will be a form where they will indicate how many pounds of fish they want and types. The more the better!


  *   Fish must be picked up at the processing facility in Portland and is usually short notice. This is part of the sign up form.


  *   One idea is for sponsors to team up and pick up fish for others, if possible. Some schools do this!

We at Child Nutrition have tried both and they are delicious! There are also many other recipes on our website with "at home" yields that might be more suitable for CACFP.
